3 Things You Can Do at Walt Disney World Without Stepping Foot on a Ride

Are you planning a vacation to Disney, but you’re not a big fan of the rides?

Disney is for ALL types of personality. Whether you're a thrill-seeker, or you enjoy strolling down the boulevard eating your Mickey-shaped ice cream, there is something for everyone.

Here are some ideas for those who aren't enamored with the idea of getting on a coaster.

3 things to do at walt disney World besides the rides

1. Find all the Hidden Mickeys

From the moment you enter any of the four theme parks, there are THOUSANDS of Hidden Mickeys all around you. So, you never know when you’ll come across one.

Disney Imagineers (designers) decided to add Mickey’s silhouette in strategically-placed spots when building the parks. Theme park fans say a true Hidden Mickey is not meant to be immediately noticed or obvious.

Instead, you can typically find them in decor, rides, or areas where Mickey Mouse would not be found. For example, one of my (now retired) favorite Hidden Mickeys was on the store Mouse Gears. When the sun hit the sign right at 5:30, its shadow cast on the building in the shape of Mickey! We like to create a game out of who can find the most while on our vacation.

2. Disney Pin Trading

Disney pin trading is an interactive experience with guests and cast members. Guests with official Disney pins can approach any cast member and ask to trade pins with them, see their pin board, or pick from their mystery box.

Disney releases different collections every year that can only be found on cast member lanyards called Hidden Mickey
pins. Here are the pin trading rules:

  • Pins must be authentic metal pins stamped with “©Disney” on the back.
  • Pins must have an authentic Disney Mickey Mouse ear backing.
  • Pin trading is intended to be free; you should never pay to trade a Disney pin.
  • If you see pins flipped over on cast members lanyards, these are mystery pins! Sometimes
you must answer trivia to see them, or sometimes it’s a blind trade! We use our traders to
take a chance on these pins: if we don’t like them, we just trade them again! These are
personally my favorite way to acquire a pin.

3. Find the Fab 50 statue at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom

The Fab 50 Character Collection are gold statues of Disney characters that are represented at the parks. And while some are easy to spot, there are plenty that require a little more effort to find.

These statues are part of Walt Disney World’s 18-month-long 50th anniversary celebration.

Does finding all the Fab 50 golden statues in Walt Disney World sound fun to you?
